i read an article today that would be considered main stream. It doesn't have to do with olympic weightlifting, but more it has to do with what we have been saying for many moons now. the article has to do with why doing situps or "crunches" really aren't the best things to do for your "abs" or "core stability". Now because all of us have crossfitted for many moons we were drunk on the term core stability and midline stability. This is the first time I have seen these terms used when talking about the regular person working out at a regular gym. I don't want to say globo gym because I refure to be like the crossfit asshole who thinks they are better then everyone else. I think this is a good thing because hopefully people will understand that your abdominal muscles aren't really there to wash your clothes on, but they are really there to help stabilize the spine as well as keep the pelvis in a nice neutral position. Here is the kicker of the article, it says that the abs are there to help keep the spine and hips stable when doing heavy lifting. HOLY SHIT, we haven't been saying that for years now. O yea the ab wheel is the best thing you can do because you lenthen your abdominals, I kind of figured that after doing around 15 reps and wanting to die. I guess what we have been saying to each other hasn't been lost to the rest of the world, maybe people will realize that just because you have a 6 pack doesnt' mean that your midline is stable. Who would have thunk it.
